Parent Governor Vacancy

 Two Parent Governor Vacancies

Deadline: Thursday 22nd October 2026

Are you objective, interested in broad educational needs and keen to raise aspirations for all pupils? We have an opportunity for you to share your skills and enthusiasm as a parent governor on our Local Governing Board.

Working as part of the Lykos MAT the Local Governing Board:

  • Sets and drives the vision and strategic direction of the school

  • Holds the Headteacher to account on finance and pupil outcomes

  • Works to improve the outcomes for every child at Uplands.

  • Is “eyes on, hands off.” (The day-to-day running of the school is for the Headteacher)

  • Acts as a ‘critical friend’ through challenge and support of school leaders to drive continual school improvement

Your commitment:

  • The Local Governing Board meets each half term after school (currently 3.45pm on Mondays). Attendance is important to keep up to date with developments and contribute to strategic decision making.

  • Pre-reading for meetings - come with questions!

  • Participate in induction, essential safeguarding and ongoing training - online and in-person

  • At least once a term training is arranged by the Lykos MAT with governors from across the Trust

  • Ideally visit the school once a term to meet with staff and children, as directed by the board. Monitoring and reporting on progress in specific subjects or school improvement priorities is a key to fulfilling your governance role. Guidance and training is available for this.

  • Be a representative parent; not a parent representative.

  • Appointments are for four years.

Why do it?

  • Collectively, governors lead the school. It’s a real chance to make a difference in children’s lives

  • Governors gain a deep knowledge of the primary education sector and a broader understanding of working with a Multi Academy Trust.

  • Develop your professional skills and experience such as strategic planning, chairing, financial planning, and team working, all of which are valued by employers and can assist your own career and personal development

Need more information?

  • You can contact the school office who will put you in touch with one of our governors

How to apply?

  • Nominate yourself to stand for election by completing the attached form and confirming your eligibility.

  • Please write a brief statement about yourself highlighting relevant experience, skills or knowledge to help parents decide whom to vote for (if an election is required).

  • Return your nominations in person to the school office or via email to Uplandsjuniorschool@wolverhampton.gov.uk clearly marked as PARENT GOVERNOR VACANCY

  • DEADLINE Nomination forms must be received by 4pm on Thursday 22nd October 2026.

  • Should there be more than one nomination for the vacancy ballot papers will then be sent out to all parents.
