We have just held a staff meeting so we can coordinate our approach to remote learning across school. I am now in a position to outline what we will be providing over this lockdown.
The Government asked for all schools to have a remote learning platform and one of their recommendations was Google classrooms which was our choice. There is no requirement to provide "live" lessons (the Oak academy set up by the Government provides video lessons for pupils which we may provide links to)-there is however a minimum requirement of 3 hours of remote learning each day which we will meet.
In addition to Google classrooms your child should have logins for SATS companion (Yr5/6), Mirodo (Yr3/4), Spelling Shed, Sumdog and Times Table Rock Stars. Please contact us if you are having any difficulties with logins or need support
Today a weekly timetable will be uploaded onto your child's year group Google classroom. This will outline the activities/lessons for the week. There will be a daily English lesson and Maths lesson, a weekly Creative curriculum lesson, RE, MFL (French), PE along with built in break and lunch times. All work can be completed online and there will be no requirement to print. Some work can be completed on paper, photographed and uploaded if needed.
Work will be scheduled at set times throughout the school day so that it is staggered. Teachers will provide powerpoints and smart notebook slide shows with voice overs to "teach" the subject. Children can ask for help, comment to their teachers and ask questions in the stream. We ask that the stream is used for this purpose and not as a "chat" facility between pupils. Teachers will go online at 8:50 each morning and children will be required to make a comment so that we know they are online and we will take a register in school. Myself and Mrs Walker will then follow up on anyone who is not accessing Google classrooms to see if we can offer support.
All teachers will be working in school full time from their classroom bases. They will all have a key worker bubble of children with them who will receive the same work as children at home. We will not be recording teachers "live" as they all will have children with them. Pupils should be able to work through the school day without any support from parents/carers at home
Work does not go from Google classrooms after it has been scheduled. This means that it can be completed later on in the day if required eg if children are having to share devices etc
I hope that this provides you with some clarity around what we will be offering. This mornings work may have been a little late as we only knew at 8pm last night that we were closing plus we held an emergency staff meeting to coordinate our response.
I am so sad that we find ourselves in this situation yet again. We will do all that we can to support your child through this time.
