Re-opening for Year 6 pupils

For parents of Year 6 pupils:

Please can I ask that you read the document "Opening schools and education settings to more pupils from June 1st-guidance for parents and carers" that was published yesterday as it gives some guidance on the wider re-opening of schools to other pupils which will be Year 6 for Uplands. In order to give us some idea of possible pupil numbers please can you email school by 6pm today if you are going to be sending your Year 6 child/ren from June 1st-this will not be a firm decision on your part but will give me some idea of numbers so I can start to make some initial plans.

Having read the detailed guidance that has come into school I wish to summarise some of the main points in order to give you some idea of how school may operate : -school will need to write a risk assessment for opening -children will be grouped into smaller class sizes of no more than 15 and less if possible -groups will not be allowed to mix with each other -there will need to be staggered drop off and collections for each group -there will be staggered play and lunch times so that groups can remain apart -the group may/may not be taught by their current teacher

-it is unlikely that pupils will be in school full-time-it may be for part of a week or half days depending on numbers -the recommendation is that face masks will not be worn in schools by either learners or staff -the expectation is that schools will keep pupils 2 metres apart from each other -desks and tables will need to be spread out and any equipment from a classroom that can be moved or stored away should be -movement around the building will be limited -parents will not be allowed to enter the school setting -frequent washing of hands will be directed -all surfaces will need to be thoroughly cleaned after each group of pupils has been in school including chairs, tables, sinks, books, switches, doors etc -doors and windows will need to be open in order to provide ventilation -one way systems will need to be put in place for any movement in school -resources will not be shared between children -contact between staff and children needs to be reduced as far as possible There is information in the parent guidance about children who live with vulnerable adults and anyone who is shielding. Parents will not be fined for non-attendance at this time and schools will not be held to account for attendance levels.
